Colors! Gallery

Colors! is homebrew software for the Nintendo DS. It's an art application that makes use of the touch screen and pressure sensitivity. From Cloudflash Mix comic #34 to #58, I've been exclusively using Colors! to draw the comics. They don't always look as good as the comics I drew in Flash (comic #33 and below), but I find it to be much more enjoyable to draw in Colors! with my DS stylus than in Flash with a mouse. Anyhow, these are the pictures (that aren't for official Cloudflash art or comics) I made that I consider to be pretty decent.
I might end up drawing quite a bit of video game and/or anime fan art, though most of my drawings here will probably just be my new avatar on TFG. Anyhow, you can feel free to use the video game/anime fan art however you want without even crediting me as long as you aren't selling the images. I had a hard time finding a picture of Deneb from Tactics Ogre, so I can only imagine how some fans of less popular games, anime series, and/or specific characters might feel.

Lunar Eclipse 2010 by Danny Poloskei

Dec.21/10: I was informed of the lunar eclipse by Skutieos and figured I'd check it out when the time came. I ended up falling asleep a few hours before the eclipse, then I woke up after a while, checked my alarm clock to see the time was around 2:30 AM, and remembered I was missing the eclipse. I stepped outside and had a look. It already passed the center a little and was on its way to ending. It was pretty much like in this picture when I saw it. It was sorta cloudy out, but I guess I was lucky enough for it not to be blocked.

AAP live uncoloured by Danny Poloskei

Oct.25/10: My associates and I jamming out for some reason as if we were the Ulfuls... with pencils instead of proper instruments since we all like to draw. Except for the afro ant in the top-right, that guy's just a ******.
I just kinda drew it as a joke, so I didn't bother taking time to colour it.

Reckless Slayer by Danny Poloskei

Oct.19/10: Dungeon Fighter Online fan art of the Reckless Slayer, a silly NPC from one of the quests in the game. He recklessly charges into battle calling his enemies rascals and getting himself killed when it's your job to keep him alive until the end.
I coloured it in openCanvas instead of on my DS. The coloured Reckless Slayer picture is here.

Communist Propaganda by Danny Poloskei
Click here to see how it was painted

Jul.07/10: Something about a picture with everything coloured red and the eyes being dark/shadows makes me laugh. Good ol' communist propaganda. Unfortunately, my searches for reference pictures on the style weren't too successful. As for the fenced in maple leaf, I dunno. I wanted to make the Canadian flag look strict and stuff.

Guy by Danny Poloskei
Click here to see how it was painted

Jun.28/10: This is Guy as I recall him from Final Fight and Street Fighter Alpha 3. Hands down, coolest character in both games. His moves are sure hard to use effectively in Alpha 3, though. In case anyone was going to, I advise against using this as any kind of reference regarding muscle structure since I don't know anything about muscle structure.

Udongein by Danny Poloskei
Click here to see how it was painted

Apr.29/10: Ogg, I feel like absolute crap. I slept through just about all of my free time yesterday, so I was rested enough at work to draw in my breaks rather than sleep... so I made this picture and just had to do some finishing touches after work... That is, after I fell asleep again and lost a few more hours of time. And I'm still tired, head's pounding, body's aching... ogg vorbis. Anyhow, this is Udongein from Touhou. I've barely played Touhou, so I don't really know anything about her. Now then, to try and do things that matter...

Cloud gift by Danny Poloskei
Click here to see how it was painted

Apr.10/10: Yeah, I dunno... I started making this last week and just finished now. I didn't have much in mind; I just wanted to draw an anime girl with poofier bangs than I normally draw. Then I ended up finishing her, then I ended up making the rest of the picture around that. Kinda messed some stuff up during colouring; you can see how it was before colouring here. He was gonna give her a flower of some sort, but that seemed pretty boring, so he's giving her some sort of contained mini-cloud instead, though it probably doesn't look like it.

Kumogumi by Danny Poloskei

Mar.22/10: I designed the armours in this picture quite a while ago, but I guess I didn't remember it entirely since the version in this picture has some differences... I was just being kinda quick and sketchy with the vague idea of the captain in front with some of his units behind him. It's just some rushed crap, but I think it turned out looking pretty cool.

2 anime girls by Danny Poloskei
Click here to see how it was painted

Mar.22/10: I wanted to try drawing more "typical" anime girls... The style I've developed is either too serious looking or too cartoony... I wanna be able to draw more like your average anime style. I think the girl on the left turned out about right, but I'm not very happy about how the girl on the right turned out.

Amemiya Sayaka Ouendan cheergirl by Danny Poloskei
Click here to see how it was painted

Mar.16/10: This is a picture of Amemiya Sayaka (雨宮沙耶花), the leader of the cheergirls from Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan, a rhythm game on the DS. I was sorta experimenting a different way of making pictures in Colors!... Well, I did something similar to that before, but it turned out better this time around. I had to switch between Colors! and Ouendan a few times for reference since I forgot what her outfit was like.

Cloudflash group 2010 by Danny Poloskei

Mar.10/10: A tribute of sorts to Cloudflash's active community members. Click here to see a version I coloured in openCanvas. I started drawing DJ Stitched Mouth for no real reason, then I added a couple others and figured I'd go all out. I didn't really take the drawing area into consideration, so some people aren't getting shown much. I might consider remaking or making a similar picture on the computer with my tablet at some point... Who's you? Figure it out! Greets to Katie, Pyre, Sakahki, Talz, Nine, Atanamir, Evancx, RustyShackleford, Leonard, twizted_chick, Ruecks, TI, Zorlax, lilwyte, KnightOfCydonia, Bomber109, Lulicah, burritofantastico, and Leo. I was gonna add Google [Bot] in the back, but I forgot to...

Still life cellphone by Danny Poloskei
Click here to see how it was painted

Mar.5/10: A still life picture of my cellphone that I drew during my breaks at work. You can see the times I was working on it within the picture if you watch how it was drawn. I didn't include the start time, though, so you'll forever be baffled by how long the picture took in total! I busted out some mad rhymes at the end for Atanamir, though it wasn't too well thought out, so it doesn't flow very well. Coincidentally, the date on the phone looks like "S(uper) MARIO". Also, those rhymes are a lie... my phone is rarely in the same pocket as my keys... I don't even know how it got so scratched up. Also, I misspelled "rhythm". GG, me.

Final World Quest group by Danny Poloskei
Click here to see how it was painted

Mar.4/10: The main characters so far from Final World Quest... I always seem to mess my pictures up when I do the line art and then the colouring (in Colors!), so I figured I'd leave it uncoloured and finish it in openCanvas later.

Cat and frosty tree by Danny Poloskei
Click here to see how it was painted

Feb.18/10: Finding only useless tutorials for drawings cats some weeks ago, I looked at skeletons and tried to teach myself. Last time I drew a cat was sometime in January, so I guess it's been 3 or 4 weeks. Seems to have turned out okay, so it seems my efforts were worth it. I hate the cold winters here, but the frosty trees are quite beautiful, like trees with white leaves. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to capture the beauty by drawing it from memory. I need to study trees more...

Sorta Advance Wars Grit by Danny Poloskei
Click here to see how it was painted

Feb.12/10: I wanted to draw Grit from Advance Wars, but I forgot how he looked. I really didn't remember how his hat was, so I ended up giving him no hat at all... He didn't wear a hat in his alternate costume in Dual Strike, but I even forgot how his hair was there. I ended up not adding a background or colouring it as I originally planned to... So... here's Grit...?

Agrias Oaks by Danny Poloskei
Click here to see how it was painted

Feb.5/10: Agrias Oaks from Final Fantasy Tactics...? Gee, was I ever way off. I drew it in my breaks at work from memory without having seen a picture of Agrias for quite a long time. I was originally just trying to draw a face and hair in Clannad's style, but I couldn't bring myself to make the eyes as big as Nagisa's.

Grant Knight by Danny Poloskei
Click here to see how it was painted

Feb.2/10: A sketch of Grant Knight from Final World Quest... Having obtained, observed, and briefly practised drawing reference pictures of Friagne, The Hunter, from an anime series called "Shakugan no Shana", I figured I'd try applying some of it to Grant here. The eyes, nose, and hair in particular. This is a bit closer to how I originally intended him to look, though not quite so devious looking. He'll probably be getting a makeover the next time I work on FWQ.

Zenan Bridge by Danny Poloskei
Click here to see how it was painted

Feb.2/10: Zenan Bridge from Chrono Trigger (circa 600 AD). I was gonna draw the entire Chrono crew heading down the long bridge, but... well... I've been spending all my breaks at work sleeping, so I haven't touched this for weeks. I sorta lost the motivation to finish it. I apparently worked on it from January 6th to January 11th in my breaks at work.

An alternate Crono by Danny Poloskei
Click here to see how it was painted

Oct.20/09: I was thinking about anime and video game characters... They often look interesting; they don't seem to just be wearing plain clothes. After analyzing and thinking about character design, I figured the key was to make the character dress in ways normal people would consider unusual or wrong. For example, Cloud Strife wears different kinds of gloves on his different hands... Well, Morose and Butch are examples of this same mindset, but I put a little more thought into it this time around. As you may have already noticed, the Crono I drew here is wearing the exact same stuff the classic Crono is wearing; I just made him wear his stuff in a different way. Orange bandana unrolled, tunic sleeves rolled up, and his tunic isn't wrapped under the belt properly. Some simple changes to make a whole new Crono. This picture ended up a lot brighter than I thought it was...Click here for the stylish Crono before I coloured him.

A land made of kanji by Danny Poloskei
Click here to see how it was painted

Oct.07/09: I was considering making a Flash movie with the environment and characters made out of kanji (Japanese characters)... That's still a "maybe" as I write this. I think this mostly speaks for itself, but you can click here if you want to know exactly what everything says. That's a link to an image, so even people without Japanese character support can see it.

Cute anime girl by Danny Poloskei

Sep.28/09: Hadn't made any real pictures for quite a while... I was mostly just making little doodles or concepts in Colors! I finished this picture today... Just some cute anime girl.

Crono from Chrono Trigger
Click here to see how it was painted

Feb.21/09: Another picture of Crono, this time painted in the same way I did Glenn. People say they don't like how it looks blurry, I say to hell with them! Colors doesn't have a paint bucket tool; it only has a brush tool. You can change the brush size, you can choose strength/weakness of the paint transparency, you can use pressure sensitivity (I don't) so that when you press harder, the brush is thicker or less transparent, and you can choose between two different styles of brushes. The first brush is completely solid with pretty much no anti-aliasing (the samurai I drew in September '08 is a good example of that), the second brush has a smooth edge, which is what I've been using lately. I think it gives the picture more of a "painting" feel. I might sharpen the edges by erasing some of that smoothness/blur in the future, but I think these pictures are fine...

Glenn (Frog) from Chrono Trigger
Click here to see how it was painted

Feb.18/09: This is Glenn (more commonly known as "Frog") from Chrono Trigger. I think "Frog" hardly qualifies as a name... but that's his default name, so that's how people know him, though it's later revealed that his real name is Glenn. Anyhow, I was experimenting with a new way of drawing/painting here, and it turned out great.

Holy Knight, Danno
Click here to see how it was painted

Feb.14/09: When I played Endless Online, I always liked that I had a unique look. The game had over a thousand players, and most of them looked alike, but I was one guy who stood out. My combination of unpopular/weak equipment was unique (other than one guy who had a somewhat similar look and a copycat or two). Anyhow, I decided I wanted to have a unique look in The Forbidden Gates. The staff accepts user submissions (sprite sheets for equipment), meaning my appearance could be any way I want it to be if I put the effort into doing the sprites. This was the design I came up with. I was aiming for the look of a sort of casual, charming knight with skill and power, as well. Not as powerful as someone decked out in the best equipment with an extremely high level, but perhaps somewhat versatile and still able to pack a punch.

Beowulf Kadmus from Final Fantasy Tactics
Click here to see how it was painted

Feb.06/09: This is Beowulf Kadmus from Final Fantasy Tactics (the PS1 game). The internet seems to also recognize him as Beowulf Kadmas... maybe that's how they translated it in the PSP version, I dunno. His abilities weren't that great compared to other special characters, but this Temple Knight was my favourite character from FFT. When I was drawing this, I was just doing it from memory of how his sprite looked... The sprite is sorta small, so a lot of this depiction of Beowulf Kadmus might be inaccurate.

Deneb Rhode from Tactics Ogre/Battle
Click here to see how it was painted

Feb.03/09: This is a picture of Deneb from Tactics Ogre/Ogre Battle (I just found out her full name is apparently Deneb Rhode). I drew it by request for someone called Exile at The Forbidden Gates. Reference pictures weren't exactly easy to come by, and I've never played the game, but the pictures I did see indicate that Deneb should look something like that.

Disco Danno
Click here to see how it was painted

Jan.22/09: This is a drawing of my character on The Forbidden Gates. I think I made this shortly after finishing the spritework for that white jacket and black shirt, which I called the "Soulful Jacket". The jacket itself is inspired by the lead singer from the Ulfuls; he was wearing something similar in a live performance I saw on Google Video. Actually, this picture is full of Ulfuls references. The Japanese text says "Aho Aho Power", also known as AAP, which is something that's mentioned in a bunch of Ulfuls songs. They have a song on their "YOU" album titled "Boku no Mono (YOU version)". An online friend and I ended up turning that into a sort of joke between ourselves... Anyhow, that's why it says YOU version on it. Lastly, I made my character pointing towards the viewer because the Ulfuls' singer does an awesome dance in their promotional video and live performances for their song "Sore ga Kotae da!". The song has a cool disco sort of sound to it, and the singer does a disco sort of dance at a point in the song. Part of that dance includes striking a pose where he points towards the audience. The pointing thing also just kind of goes together with the "YOU version" since it's like he's pointing at YOU!

Danno of TFG

Dec.13/08: This is an older drawing of my TFG character, which I also made as concept art of sorts. There was no such weapon or martial arts top in TFG when I drew this. I later pixeled the weapon, but didn't get back to that martial arts top too soon.

Knightmare

Nov.22/08: This is a picture I drew based on some TFG equipment I created, "Hades Helm", "Deathmail", and "Grim Longsword". The armour and helmet were inspired by Cecil from Final Fantasy IV.

Crono from Chrono Trigger
Click here to see how it was painted

Nov.16/08: Chrono Trigger has been my favourite game ever since I played it on the SNES when I was around 8 years old, only to be rivaled later by Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy X, and Advance Wars: Dual Strike. Anyhow, this is the main character, Crono. I also submitted this drawing to the Chrono Trigger Novel Project's fan art section. I haven't really read into that project too much, but I figured that would be a good place to show off my Crono fan art.

Danno Fu
Click here to see how it was painted

Oct.19/08: I used a photo of myself as reference to draw this, and I tried to make it look sort of realistic to an extent. I wasn't exactly posed like that, though. I'm pretty sure I drew at least one of the arms without any reference, but I don't remember which one (or if I drew both from scratch). The scar on my right cheek isn't actually that noticeable, and I couldn't notice it in the photo. I just thought it would be cool to add it, though. However, it isn't that high; it's more like... in line with the bottom of my lower lip. I probably should have looked in the mirror for reference.

My Gaia avatar, Zantetsken
Click here to see how it was painted

Sep.17/08: I don't really play Gaia anymore, and I never really did. I only played the market and obtained quite a bit of gold, which I used to dress my avatar. I was never much into their forum, games, or general community. Anyhow, this is how my avatar looked at some point. I typically maintain a samurai-esque appearance; this is one good example of that.
